I was in heaven and it didn't feel too bad. Dying hadn't amounted to much - probably no worse than a bad visit to the dentist except that it had been more of a whole out of body experience. At least now I'd got it over and could look forward to the hereafter and everything else. Maybe some good-looking angels could be found to brighten my eternity. My only regret was that I hadn't been able to say goodbye to my mum. But she probably wouldn't have minded much. I sighed sadly at the thought. The sighing hurt my chest and I felt slightly miffed. Hurting was supposed to stop when you died and I was still hurting which wasn't fair. Dimly I wondered whether there was a customer service desk where I could draw this to somebody's attention.  Read this online story free here

Featured free online story extract from Rob Hopcott ...

Inside the bunker, the man with the combat jacket had always felt secure. He was its king. He refurbished it lovingly in the knowledge that no one would ever come here again, unless he invited them. One day, perhaps he would bring someone here for his pleasure. He'd sometimes thought of this, as he lay awake at night. The bunker had several living areas and an electricity generator that he'd installed. Running water was pumped from an underground spring. It was perfect. He skinned and gutted the rabbit. As he worked, he wiped his brow then caught sight of himself in the mirror. On his forehead was a smear of rabbit's blood. It made him look fearsome so he left it there until it dried and felt uncomfortable.  Read this online story free here

Featured free online story extract from Rob Hopcott ...

In the night she thought she awoke to find herself on the hill where she had first stood with Sam and looked down over the countryside to the sea below. Besides her was the hobby horse, gazing quietly out at the view. It all seemed very natural. She didn't feel at all afraid. She awoke the next day with a feeling of resolve. Deciding to catch a brunch on the motorway, she made an early start. Eventually, the rolling hills of Somerset gave way to the flat plains of Salisbury and finally the car-clogged streets of London.  Read this online story free here
